I applaud Steve Poizner's tenacity for standing up against "business as usual politics" requesting his silent withdrawal in exchange for a future political favor and Senate seat! I am appalled by the Whitman camp's Mike Murphy and their flagrant attempt to hijack our 2010 gubernatorial election process. I am a native Californian and a taxpaying citizen for the past 37 years. I am disgusted at how anesthetized we have all become to current political principles and electoral dishonesty. We now toss around the catch phrase "politically correct" as a way of saying this is not what I really think is right but rather the right thing to say for social correctness. When did truth stop being truth and when did we trade in truth for "political correctness?" Los Angeles Times reporter George Skelton calls into question Steve Poizner's ability to govern and stated, "It raises the possibility that Poizner has no stomach for making political deals, the kind of mutual back-scratching needed for any democracy to function." Mr. Skelton even goes as far as to suggest that Mike Murphy's real mistake was putting his offer in writing a lieu of an unverifiable phone call. In other words, wrong is only wrong if you get caught. I don't know about the rest of you but I am sick and tired of business as usual politics with back-scratching backroom deals, negative smear campaigns and the media taking sides to shape public opinion rather than reporting the facts and allowing our citizenry to determine what is right for us. This is the type of politics we have been living with for years and to that I say, "so how is that working out for you?" I can't speak for Meg Whitman's agenda around this recent inappropriate shenanigan but I am sure of this -- I do not want a governor that is willing to silently stand by while "political strategists" attempt to hijack our political process of electing our governing officials. To Steve Poizner I say thank you for not making a backroom deal and for telling the truth, even if the backroom deal could have assured you a seat in the Senate. To Meg Whitman I say, "fire Mike Murphy and run a clean campaign" and if you will not do this and now attempt to make Steve Poizner look like he did something wrong, you are giving us all a preview of your character and a very clear demonstration of what we should expect from you if we vote you into the Governor's office.
